The Disability Tax Credit is an annual income tax credit adminstered by Canada Revenue Agency, that allows successful claimants to benefit up to $2,000 to $3,000 per year, and is available to all ages.
The Disability Tax Credit can be claimed up to 10 past years, as well as all future years.
Claims that are approved back the full 10 years can result in a total benefit for past years to equal up to $20,000 to $30,000 in one lump sum. Claims for children under 18, can amount to substantially more.
Yes, the DTC is an annual income tax benefit that can reduce annual income tax by up to $2,000 to $3,000 per year at tax filing each year moving forward.
The DTC defines three different levels of restriction that can qualify, the "severe", "moderate", and "less than moderate" in two or more functions, where the latter two definitions are not generally well understood by doctors. As a result, all too often doctors will feel that ONLY severely restricted patients qualify. This is incorrect, and can unfairly result in patients who do qualify to be lead to believe they do not qualify, or only qualify for years they were most severely restricted.
If your Free Instant Online DTC Assessment indicates you do qualify and would benefit, we provide a no obligation information summary of your case, and how we can help with your DTC application. This includes a detailed summary of the specific DTC rules to which your case is based, the number of retroactive years you qualify, and the benefit amount available in your case, as well as the specific medical conditions that are applicable. We then complete your actual application form, an instruction letter for you and your doctor, and then submit your application on your behalf. We also help with a second DTC form the doctor will need to complete after the initial submission. Overall, we help with every stage of the DTC application process, maximizing the claim approval and benefit amount outcome. However, the first step is to utilze our Free Instant Online DTC Assessment to find out whether you do qualiy and the benefit applicable in your case.
No*. The DTC is an income tax credit and does not normally negatively impact any other benefits programs. (*Although this is the case in the majority of situations, you should check with your health or income benefits providers directly, if you are unsure.)
No. Anyone of any age can apply.
Yes, when children's DTC claims are approved, the benefit is provided to a parent or caregiver.
Yes, parents receive up to $1,000 more tax credit/benefit per year compared to an adult claim benefit amount, for an increased amount of up to $3,000 per year. There is also another associated benefit, the Child Disability Benefit that can provide up to $3,000 additional benefit per year. This means that childrens claims can amount to $6,000 per year (over the last 10 years). Indeed, that amounts up to $60,000 for a child's claim when approved for the past 10 years, as well as even more for future years.
Yes, the Registered Disability Savings Plan is made available to approved DTC claimants, which offers additional grant amounts and preferencial income tax considerations, which help to maximize the value of DTC associated benefits payments.
Yes, past years DTC credits can be claimed anytime throughout the year. For future years the DTC is claimed at income tax filing time.
No. Although those who do have severe restrictions can qualify, others who are moderate can qualify as well. In fact, those who are less than moderate in 2 or more restrictions can also qualify based on the cumulative effects of there multiple restrictions.

First, the DTC Assessments are free with no obigation. Next, if you do qualify and would benefit from a successful claim, and are interested in getting help with your claim, we provide information on how we can help, as well as our associated rates. The good news is that DTC service rates are fixed and set by thae Canadian Government, so all service providers fees are the same. These rates are $100 for an application, and if approved and would benefit $100 for each past year. If your claim is not approved, only the $100 application fee applies.
